On Tuesday evening, the Swiss dental specialist COLTENE invited to its press conference at the Hyatt Regency Hotel as part of the International Dental Show (IDS) 2019 and presented an insight into its innovative new products in the fields of restorative dentistry, endodontics and hygiene.
Coltene's CEO Martin Schaufelberger opened the conference with a brief review of Coltene's milestones. He discussed the division into "infection control" (instrument preparation and surface disinfection), "dental perservation" (restoration, endodontics) and "efficient treatment" (e.g. rotary instruments, impression materials), the growth of the company in Germany and worldwide, as well as the organization and mega trends of the dental industry and how Coltene reacted to them. Stefan Helsing, COO Coltene Group spoke about the cooperation between Coltene and MicroMega as well as the resulting projects e.g. sales, IT and trade and of course the resulting broader portfolio.
Novelties in the endo area
Dr. Barbara Müller, Head of Product Segment Endodontic, then spoke specifically about the innovations in the field of endodontics and restoration. She dealt with the different segments, e.g. rubber dam, hand files, NiTi file systems. "We set standards especially for the files," said Dr. Müller, emphasizing the term "controlled memory", which Coltene first coined. But she also talked about the preferences of dentists and how Coltene and MicroMega react to these wishes with the joint portfolio.
As a novelty in the field of endodontics, Dr. Müller presented a new HyFlex EDM file, which can be very flexibly inserted into the canal. These will be available from April 2019.
As a further innovation, the Jeni Endo engine is already in the starting blocks and is expected to be available in the second half of the year. The new motor connects to file systems at the push of a button, prepares fully automatically with integrated length measurement from coronal to apical and offers the setting of kimematic parameters.
New composite shells for a brilliant smile
In addition to endodontics, Coltene is also a pioneer in the field of restoration. Stefan Koch, Head of Product Segment Restaurative, presented two new products in the restoration segment. With BRILLIANT COMPONEER, COLTENE presents its leading composite veneering system with improved formulation. The material is applied to the submicron filler technology of the already proven high-performance composite BRILLIANT EverGlow, making it easy to polish. In addition, the glossy composite shells are only 0.3 mm thick at the thinnest point, but are still highly stable. The shells are industrially fabricated and suitable for direct restoration, even in the aesthetically sensitive anterior region. Dentists can choose from different sizes and enamel shades. With the appropriate composite, they can be attached and easily individualized. The shade is matched using the "Duo Shade" shade concept. COLTENE offers visitors the opportunity to test the composite shells at its booth. Experts will also be on hand to provide information and advice on the various applications.
The second novelty are BRILLIANT Crios, available as Disc or Block. The CAD/CAM composite is very efficient and is based on flexible and gentle material properties. The product is suitable for both dentists and dental technicians. Also new is ECO Line Polisher for composites. The very thin walls are very suitable for interspace polishing. In the field of instrument cleaning, Coltene's SciCan HYDRIM G4 and BioSonic® Wipeout disinfectant wipes offer excellent solutions for practice hygiene. The wipes are very wear-resistant, the Sensitive version is particularly suitable for surfaces that are sensitive to alcohol.
With its new, expanded portfolio, Coltene is optimistic about the year 2019.
